Why Wearing Heels May be Good for Your Health

We’ve all heard the litany of reasons we shouldn’t wear high heels. From articles in magazines to an excellent old lecture from your grandmother, the disadvantages are made clear. But when you see them in the magazines, or you pass someone wearing a gorgeous pair on the street, you have to have them. You can see yourself strutting down around the boardroom in them, all eyes on you. All the old wives’ tales take a back seat, as you’re ‘forced’ to indulge yourself.

Who knew, though, that there are actual advantages and benefits of wearing high heels. No, it’s not all doom and gloom. “I was pleasantly surprised to read that my heels can work for me,” says Leetal Smith, an official working at aussiewritings.com writing service. “Now, I don’t feel bad about wearing them at all.”

The benefits of wearing high heels

  1.    The psychological factor

A confident woman goes for what she wants and gets it. In the competitive corporate environment, a well-developed sense of self-confidence is critical. It can give you the edge over your competitors. Wearing a great pair of heels confidently draws attention to you as a go-getter.

If wearing a pair of heels makes you feel good about yourself, wear them. When you feel good about yourself, you’re inclined to take more risks. Often, that’s what your career needs. If you’re not the high heels type and you look like Bambi on the ice when you wear them, they’re not going to boost your confidence. But when you look at a colleague and see how confident a good pair of heels makes them, get some, get some practice, and then strut your stuff!

  1.    Your posture

Wearing high heels can improve your posture. When you wear high heels, your posture is altered. They propel your body forward. To maintain a straight back with your heels on, you must exercise your core back muscles. This strengthens your posture and makes it better in the long run.

If you don’t wear high heels regularly, you may find your back muscles are sore after a day in stilettos. A lower heel worn more frequently will give your muscles time to strengthen. The additional strength of your back muscles will stand you in good stead later in life.

  1.    The appearance illusion

Not only do high heels make you taller, but they also create the illusion of a more extended, more slender body. A pair of heels automatically makes your calves shapelier and elongates the leg.  Your legs look longer and thinner as soon as you slip them on.

Paired with the right outfit, a good pair of heels can make you look a lot leaner and slimmer than you are. If you think it’s too good to be true, examine carefully the next time you go shopping. Try an outfit on with flats and then with heels. The effect is obvious. The feeling of looking good in your heels at workplace will boost your confidence and let you take center stage in the office.

  1.    High heels and pelvic floor exercises

Pelvic floor exercises strengthen your pelvic muscles. Stronger pelvic muscles help during pregnancy and childbirth. But they also make you experience increased sexual pleasure. Women are told to do pelvic floor exercises for these reasons.

According to a study, wearing high heels makes your body do pelvic floor exercises. Women wearing heels showed increased muscle activity in the pelvic muscles than those that weren’t. Your pelvic muscles are being strengthened while you’re walking the halls at work. If you’re a fan of multi-tasking, this benefit will appeal to you!

Selecting a good pair of heels

All people’s bodies and feet are different. What looks good on your sister may be agonizingly uncomfortable and unflattering on you. When you go shopping for high heels, here are some factors to consider:

  1. If heels are causing you pain, they alter your gait. Before you know it, you’re limping along. So much for the bold, confident look! If they hurt right after you try them on, they’re going to hurt if you wear them for a day.
  2. Make sure you get the shoe in the right size. Shoe sizes are not as standardized as you may think. Don’t assume that your shoe size in Brand A will be the same in Brand B. Ensure that the shoe doesn’t pinch your toes or the back of your foot. If the sides of the shoe do not line up with the sides of your feet, you need to check the size again.
  3. The width of the heel can be the difference between being spectacular and being a spectacle. A lot of women don’t like stilettos and find them hard to walk in. There are many different heel styles to choose from. Look for something that is comfortable and flattering.

So, the next time you see an adorable pair of heels in the store, and you feel like they’re calling your name, feel free to try them on. After all, there are health benefits to wearing high heels that are undeniable. And you deserve them at any rate!
